Special Projects
Student Creative Literacy Portfolio:
Students will turn in two-three writing projects that they work on during the Creative Workshop part of the class each day. (See Daily Classroom Schedule Post)
There are two types of projects and the student needs to at least complete one of each of these different forms of this project. Two styles of this project is Reading-based and Writing based.
Reading-based Project:
If/when the student chooses this form of the project there are still more project ideas to pick from for how the project is completed or what form it comes in.
- The student can write a book report (generally research or philosophy based prompt). -The student will come up with their own prompt, but check it off with the teacher.
- A book review could be written about the book the student and be worthy to be posted or presented to others and will become (if the student allows) part of the bulletin board of book reviews to help their fellow students decide if they would like to read it.
- A creative writing piece will be written by the student based on a principle shown in the book they have been writing or from the perspective of a different character that the book told the story through. (This can be a collection of 2-3 poems, a short story or comic.)
- The student can create a nonlinguistic representation of a (character and focusing on their development in the story or special characteristics. Another is a special symbol from the book and its characteristics or perhaps an important principle from the book represented in a unique way). Then a short paper is to be written to explain the connection between the representation piece and the story.
- Examples of the type of nonlinguistic representations acceptable for the project are...
- Art piece (drawing, painting, sculpture, etc.)
- Cooking a special meal or recipe from the book ( the food must have had a significant role in the story's plot.
- A composed piece of music/ song (will be shared with the class).
- Any other ideas are available, but review and check them off with the teacher to make sure you will receive credit for the work.
Writing-Based Project:
If/when the student chooses this form of the project there are still more project ideas to pick from for how the project is completed or what form it comes in.
This part of the project focuses on the student's own imagination and interests to write about.
- The student can write their own story... (Fiction, Nonfiction, Creative nonfiction... with various genres.)
- (Short story, fable, myth, Grimm fairytale or 2-3 chapters from a novel they wish to write.)
- Students can write a collection of poems (in any style they wish) In order to complete this some research (googling) may need to be done to explain how to do each or any of these styles If we have not reached that unit yet.)
- Shakespearean Sonnet (structured in a specific style and pattern)
- Freestyle (free from a form)
- Nonsensical (there are rules to this style)
- Students can write their own narrative... (Again research may need to be done to understand and write these properly if the unit has not been covered yet in the school year.)
- Personal
- Historical
- Societal
- Students can write their own...
- comic
- cartoon
- script
- Act from a play (needs at least 3-4 scenes.)
- ETC... ( review another style or form of writing with the teacher to verify it is approved for the project.
